About SalaryWise
What this site does
SalaryWise is a set of salary-after-tax calculators. You enter a gross salary and get an estimate of take-home pay, with every deduction shown separately: income tax by band and each social contribution.
The site covers one standard case per country — for example, an employee with no extra income, no pension deductions and no special credits. Each calculator page states its scope plainly, so you can tell at a glance whether it fits your situation.
How figures are sourced
Every rate, threshold and contribution figure comes from the country's official tax authority: GOV.UK and HMRC (United Kingdom), the Canada Revenue Agency and the Department of Finance (Canada), Revenue and the Department of Social Protection (Ireland), the IRS and the Social Security Administration (United States), and the Australian Taxation Office (Australia).
Each calculator page links to its sources and carries a last-updated date. Tax rules change every year, so figures are reviewed when a new tax year starts. If a country's figures cannot be checked end to end against its official authority, that country is not added — a smaller accurate site is better than a bigger inaccurate one.
Nothing here is copied from other calculator sites. The wording, the layout and the calculation code are SalaryWise's own.
What the calculators do not do
Calculators give estimates, not tax advice. They do not cover pensions, student loans, benefits in kind, regional or state taxes (unless the page says so), extra credits, or income other than salary.
If your situation includes anything a calculator lists as not included, your real take-home pay will differ. For anything you will act on — a job offer, a move abroad, a tax return — check with a qualified accountant or the tax authority itself.
