Salary after tax, worked out properly

Enter your gross salary and see what you actually keep — income tax and social contributions, broken down line by line. Every figure on this site is checked against the country's official tax authority, and every calculator page says exactly what it includes and what it leaves out.

Choose your country

How calculations work

  1. Pick your country. Each calculator is built for one tax year and one standard case (for example, an employee, single, no extras).
  2. Enter your gross salary, yearly or monthly. The calculator applies that country's brackets, thresholds and contribution rates in order.
  3. Read the breakdown. You see each tax band and each contribution separately, plus take-home pay per year, month and week.

Sources and honesty

Tax rates are taken from official sources only: GOV.UK and HMRC for the United Kingdom, the Canada Revenue Agency and the Department of Finance for Canada, Revenue and the Department of Social Protection for Ireland, the IRS and the Social Security Administration for the United States, and the Australian Taxation Office for Australia. Each calculator page links to its sources and carries a last-updated date.

Results are estimates for the standard case described on each page. Real payslips differ when pensions, student loans, benefits, regional taxes, extra credits or other income are involved. If anything on your payslip is not covered by a calculator, treat its result as a starting point and check with an accountant.

Countries not added yet

Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy are not on the site yet. Each of them needs something this site will not guess at: Germany's exact tariff formula and social insurance ceilings, France's full employee contribution schedule, the Netherlands' exact tax-credit tapers, Spain's regional tax scales (which differ by autonomous community), and Italy's employment tax credit rules. A country is added only once its current-year figures can be checked end to end against its official tax authority.

Coming later: profession-by-country comparisons and a combined salary-versus-cost-of-living tool. Those are planned features, not live pages — they are not half-built here.
