Canada salary after tax calculator (2026)

Enter your gross yearly salary and see what you keep after federal income tax, Canada Pension Plan contributions and Employment Insurance for 2026.

Scope: Federal tax only, for an employee living outside Quebec. Provincial or territorial tax is extra and is not included.

How the calculation works

  1. CPP is worked out first: 5.95% of earnings between $3,500 and $74,600, plus a second CPP contribution (CPP2) of 4% on earnings between $74,600 and $85,000.
  2. Employment Insurance is 1.63% of earnings up to $68,900.
  3. For federal tax, the enhanced CPP part (1% of the base band plus all of CPP2) is deducted from income, then the five federal brackets apply.
  4. Two credits then reduce the federal tax: the basic personal amount (up to $16,452, tapering to $14,829 for higher incomes) and the base CPP contribution, both credited at the lowest rate of 14%.
  5. Take-home pay is your gross salary minus federal tax, CPP, CPP2 and EI.

Not included: Provincial and territorial income tax is NOT included, so your actual take-home pay will be lower than shown here — in most provinces by a large amount. Quebec is excluded entirely (Quebec Pension Plan and Quebec Parental Insurance Plan work differently). The Canada employment amount and other credits are not modelled.
